Accent piece

29 Apr

As much as I love shopping for clothes and shoes, I also have periods when I want to add some flair to to my home. I don’t really like the office type swivel chair as a computer chair, so I bought an armchair from a thrift store for $14!! It was okay looking and comfy, but I still wanted a nice print and modern chair. Accent chairs can be pricey, so if you even see one on sale get it, because they can always be a nice addition to your room!

I bought this one from Pier 1 Imports for $200! The ones at Ikea are around $300, but they are nice too.

Crazy for Loafers!

14 Apr

When I started my “real job” three years ago, I always made sure my clothes/shoes/accessories purchases were wearable for both work and play. I’m so glad loafers or as I like to call “man shoes” came into style and stuck around. They are great to change into from heels at work and still keep you looking sharp. Since I commute to work, I usually wear comfy shoes to work, and sometimes when I get right into my office I don’t even have time to change into heels. It’s nice to go into your boss’ office in loafers as opposed to running shoes when she needs  a report right away for her morning meeting.

Last summer, I really wanted a loafers with tassels. I found this Steve Madden one in Queens, New York. Although it is patent (not always a fan of patent), the price was right ($30!!) and it had tassels!

I had my eye on these ones the moment I saw them on the Aldo site! They are great for the weekends and I can pull it off at work as well, they are one of the most comfortable shoes I own! I want to get the black ones too, which are on sale at the moment. Just a side note – I prefer purchasing shoes from the Aldo site as opposed to the actual store, the site has a huge variety and is usually cheaper. If you don’t like them you can return them at a store, and if you don’t want to pay shipping, you can also order the shoes at the store (the store will probably not carry all the styles).

This is my fresh buy from Naturalizer, yes, you heard me right Naturalizer. They carry a wide variety of on trend shoes, and you win when you have a Naturalizer outlet near you. I’ve been looking for leopard print shoes forever, and to get a calf hair one for $23 is worth the wait. I’m a bit hesitant  to wear this to work though…

I do have more loafers to share…some of them are at work, but I will do a Part 2 soon!

Mad Men is Back!!

7 Apr

All is good in life now that Mad Men is back. Sometimes, when a show comes back after a long hiatus, you think it may not be what it was in its glory days. But Mad Men aired little over two weeks ago and just blew my mind! The characters, the clothes, new clients, and all the added drama, just made the show even better. I thought it would start off in a lull and build up, but no, we as Mad Men fans don’t deserve that after months of waiting! And it did not disappoint. I just wanted to focus on some of the characters that really make an impact on the show, they are characters that I love to hate, or just dislike but their actions are justified (I’m talking about Pete).

SPOILERS BELOW

Now that I mentioned Pete, lets start with Pete. Pete deserves better, but his antics and lack of respect for the senior partners will not do him any good. He does deserve a bigger office, his name should be included in the company name, most of all, he should be living in the city!! That Trudy! I get it, why respect Roger when all he does is drink in his big office? Has he brought any clients in lately? Pete makes us think he hasn’t. But it’s all the work he’s done in the past, he was probably Pete when he was young, but more of a playa! Pete, just stop whining about the injustice everyone is putting you through, and bring in more and more clients and you’ll earn your dues!

Next up Joan. I feel as a young professional I resonate a little with Joanie and Pete. They are relatively in the same boat as far as their professional lives go. They both don’t receive the same recognition they deserve but the only difference is Joan knows how to keep her cool. She didn’t come in a rage to the office demanding if she was being replaced, but she found the answer she was looking for and also discovered she can’t be replaced so easily.

And finally Betty, everyone’s fav b**ch. We can see she’s not happy with her current situation, she’s fat, may have cancer and stuck in a rut. Maybe she liked the drama and the tension her and Don shared, maybe she’s one of those girls who likes jerks as their significant others. When Henry still wants to get it on and says he doesn’t notice anything different, what else does a woman need!! I hope the cancer scare doesn’t make Betty all nice and “live your life to the fullest” kind of a person. I like her mean and icy attitude, it’s what makes Betty, Betty.

Ahhhhhh can’t wait for tomorrow! I hope all our Easter guests leave before Mad Men starts.

TV Bliss

4 Apr

I think everyone who knows me knows how much I love my TV shows. April is a great month for TV! Mad Men and Game of Thrones have started and boy did it ever make me happy. I think if there are great shows like this on air forever, it will make the stress in my life disappear. I wanted to start off with Game of Thrones, and tomorrow I will do my review/comments on Mad Men.

I wish people would stop watching shows like The Voice, Dancing with the Stars and everything on E! (excluding The Soup) and invest their time on good TV. But whatever floats your boat I guess.

*SPOILERS FOR G.O.T. SEASON 1 and EPI  1 OF SEASON 2 BELOW*

Just a little history on how my infatuation with G.O.T. blossomed – my boyfriend recommends this show by saying “This is the next Lord of the Rings” Done! I’m sold, lets watch this and see what’s it all about. I ended up watching episode 2 first and then episode 1. Yes, I was confused, but it intrigued me, hints of dragons and families feuding over lands. There are shockers within the entire season, the main character dying, dragons being born, and family connections you did not expect!

Well what do you do when the season is over and you have to wait a whole year for the next one to start? You obviously read all 5 books and now you wait for Mr. Martin to write the next one, and hope with all your heart it does not take 5 years to write!

I spoke with my co-worker who is also a fan of G.O.T. but has not read the books. She was not too pleased with the first epi of season 2. I assured her not to worry, that the story is building up to something awesome. So much s**t goes down I don’t know what else to say!! We did get a little bit of everyone, and what they are up to. Everyone is dispersed and I think you’ll see their characters develop in their own and we’ll all have a favourite character. I am team Daenerys and I love Tyrion as well!

I think from the all the trailers we saw and then the first episode, one of the most intriguing new characters is Melisandre. Who is this woman in red? There is some magic in her we see, so what does this mean for the realm?

There are many new characters introduced in season 2, and more in season 3 etc. etc. I only hope the show does not stray away from the books, for the sake of keeping fans of the show happy. If you are interested in reading the books, but want to skip ahead, the first book and season 1 are pretty much the same. So start reading A Clash of Kings!!

Happy TV watching..whatever you may fancy.

Bright Bags: Go Cheap or Pricey

1 Apr

A bright handbag is a great way to complete an outfit. Along with your beige trench, a bright bag can really make an outfit POP. These are the two bags I bought for the season.

I instantly fell in love with the purple ostrich imprint Kate Spade handbag! I had to have it. But before I purchased it, I had to make sure I budgeted myself  for the month to justify this purchase. This basically means a lot of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for lunch and limiting dinner/drinks dates with friends. I think it was worth it.

The second bag is this banana yellow messenger bag. I got this bag from a store in a subway station for $12!

This is my weekender bag, I don’t feel bad when I just shove this bag under a table at a restaurant or a bar and the cross body strap keeps my hands free. I also like to look for a side pocket in a bag, so I can keep my bus pass and phone close to me.

Thanks for reading!
